Explore Metadata

Our data has a comprehensive set of metadata that documents its availability and meaning. We have created API endpoints to allow users to explore this metadata. These metadata endpoints are useful for helping users understand which data is available across our datasets, and also for helping users construct their extract request.

See example code showing how to use the API to interact with IPUMS NHGIS metadata. Our microdata products don’t yet have support in the API for their metadata, but see the IPUMS USA metadata and IPUMS CPS metadata for more information and workarounds.
